Verlat resting at Otho's house

Find a Cure for Verlat is a Divine Divinity quest in Aleroth. It is initiated by speaking with Otho at his house.

Objectives

Find a cure for Verlat.
  • The soldier Verlat was badly wounded during an orc ambush and is now in the care of the dwarven healer Otho. To heal Verlat I need to access a shrine of healing near Goemoe's house that produces healing gems. Otho told me that the shrine doesn't recharge itself. There's only one gem left. The lizard healer Goemoe is treating a wounded soldier, who is in need of this gem too. I don't like the aspect of making a moral decision on who should receive the healing gem. I need to find a way to duplicate the gem if I want to save both patients.

Walkthrough

Otho is treating Verlat. Despite Verlat's critical condition, Otho cannot cure him because the village lost connection with the Source which amplifies their healing abilities. The only solution is to offer Verlat the last healing gem from the shrine, but doing so causes Goemoe's patient Simon to die. Neither Otho nor Goemoe can cause the death of either patient, even if it means saving the other.

To save both patients, the player character must retrieve a magic mirror from the abandoned house and obtain the gem from the shrine. The gem can be duplicated at the pool of water east of George's house. First, drop the mirror into the water (by dragging it from the inventory screen into the water). Then, drop the healing gem into the water. Two healing gems spawn in the water, which can be offered to both Verlat and Simon.

To obtain quest rewards, both patients must be healed first. The player character can then inform Otho and Goemoe that both patients made a full recovery. Otherwise, if informing Otho and Goemoe that only one patient is healed, the player character may be locked out of the dialogue option to tell them both patients are healed.
