Rescue Lanilor the Elf from his Icy Prison is a Divine Divinity quest in Aleroth.
Objectives
Walkthrough
This quest is part of the quest 
Restore Mardaneus' Sanity. If approaching the entrance to Mardaneus' house for the first time, 
Mardaneus mistakes his friend 
Lanilor as 
Thelyron Hashnitor, the demon lord of decay. Mardaneus freezes Lanilor in a pillar of ice and locks himself in his home.
It is possible to complete this quest without speaking to Lanilor. Otherwise, if interacting with Lanilor, he asks the player character to call for Mardaneus. If informing him the door is locked, Lanilor directs the player character to the bottom of Aleroth well, where an underground passage leads to Mardaneus' House.
The southwestern tunnel in the well leads to a ladder attached to Mardaneus' House. A locked door bars the path to the ladder, but the key is on a crate next to the door.
If speaking with Mardaneus in his home, he can be convinced to unfreeze Lanilor, who informs the player character about the Aleroth catacombs beneath the town.
