Troubled Waters is a quest in Divinity: Original Sin II. It is initiated by speaking with
Magister Siwan on the Merryweather during the Prologue.
Objectives
Walkthrough
After awakening on the Merryweather, leave the tutorial deck to speak with
Siwan on the lower deck. She directs the player character to the stern room on the opposite side of the lower deck. The entrance to the stern room is guarded by
Payde, who must be interacted with to gain access. Otherwise, the player character can pickpocket the
Key to Stern Room from him.
Inside,
Windego is interrogated by three Magisters. She confesses to killing Finn, breaks her
Source Collar, and kills the Magisters while knocking the player character unconscious. Upon awakening, the player character can take the nearby staircase to access the middle level.
On the middle level of the ship,
Ricks and
Murtof have locked themselves in the easternmost room. The player character must attack the door to break it and gain access. If failing to persuade the Magisters to lay down arms, both Ricks and Murtof become hostile.
On the other side of the middle level,
Medwyn's corpse contains a
Skull-Marked Key unlocking the skull-marked door containing Deathfog Barrels. If entering, tentacles smash through the walls, breaking the barrels and contaminating the area.
On the upper level, the player character immediately enters combat with two
Viscous Voidlings. After killing the Voidlings, continue along the upper deck, where tentacles break explosive barrels, killing
Captain Kalwyn. Investigating Kalwyn's body reveals a
Blinding Radiance Scroll.
On the northern end of the upper level,
Gil is in a lifeboat with two children. He is eager to leave, but
Trice insists on saving the survivors on the lower deck. The player character can immediately depart on the lifebaot or return to the lower deck.
If returning to the lower deck,
Void Hatchlings attack the player character and remaining survivors. After combat, the player character can return to Siwan, who is severely wounded but alive. Regardless of whether the player character attempts to save or kill her, the Merryweather sinks, triggering a cutscene with
High Judge Orivand, and ending the Prologue.
