The Merryweather is a location in the Prologue of Divinity: Original Sin II. It is where the player character awakens as an imprisoned Sourcerer en route to Fort Joy.
Overview
The Merryweather is a Lucian-class frigate[1] travelling the High Seas. The Magisters of the Divine Order are directing the ship toward the colony of Fort Joy, where Sourcerers are cured of Source. Although Source has been used peacefully for thousands of years, recent Source activity attracts Void creatures that threaten all of Rivellon. Thus, Sourcerers are shackled with
Source Collars to stifle their use of Source, and shipped to the island of Reaper's Eye, where Fort Joy awaits.
The Merryweather is divided into four levels: a tutorial, lower, middle, and upper deck. To advance the story, the player character must progress through each level to reach the upper deck.
Tutorial deck
Upon awakening, the player character can immediately take a nearby ladder to the lower deck. However, it is recommended for new players to explore the room to learn basic controls and game mechanics.
Lower deck
On the lower deck,
Siwan instructs the player character to report to
William in the stern room, located on the other end of the deck. The player character can interact with others to learn an imprisoned Sourcerer was murdered and the killer still on the loose. To progress, the player character must enter the stern room, where the murderer reveals herself, using Source to summon Void creatures and escape.
Middle deck
In the stern room, a staircase leads up to the middle deck, where two surviving Magisters have locked themselves in a room. To enter, the player character must physically destroy one of the locked doors.
Upper deck
On the upper deck, two Void creatures immediately attack the player character. After defeating them, interacting with
Gil on the lifeboat presents options to leave or retrieve survivors. If returning to the lower deck, the player character and survivors fight against the Void.
